The Pictures to Go with Yesterday’s Post…

Posted on

I had to run to an appointment yesterday and had to interrupt the photo upload, so I’m now adding a couple of pictures from Leah’s birthday party (the cabin adventure mentioned yesterday) and a belly picture…this is the very first picture that I’ve taken of the growing belly so far, but today marks 4 months, so it seemed a good time.

I went to a friend’s art opening last night that was really great–she spent a year traveling (mostly in South and Central America) and took hundreds if not thousands of pictures shot on Polaroid 660 film and then digitally interpreted the pictures and transferred them to scrap wood (pardon the basic nature of that description of her process). It was a very cool exhibit that encompassed the haphazard nature of international travel, and also revealed once again that she has a lovely interpretation of the world around her. Subsequently I spent the night dreaming about living in an RV looking through the windows at blurry photographs whirling by as I bumped along the road. Last night was one of the few nights that I didn’t have a baby on my brain or in my arms in my dreams, and was also, I think, the first time that I have dreamed through photographs.

Anyway, here are some pictures from the last couple of weeks…Leah and KatieBirthday girl Leah and Katie

So that’s the update for today, back to the grindstone and another sunny day!

Update

Well it’s a sunny, beautiful, slightly cool, dare I say SPRING Monday, and I wanted to take a minute to catch up in the blog world. First I should say that the reason, I think, that I’ve slowed my blogging down so much is that I am professionally bound to the internet all day long and so my personal time spent on the internet is brief, at best. Secondly, I used to blog quite a bit in the evenings, but wouldn’t you know that after about 7pm, this growing baby inside of me is interested in just about 3 things, and three things only: hearing Drew’s voice, ice cream, and the highly coveted sleep. Of these three, the one that fluctuates the most is the ice cream…some nights we spend our time dreaming about chocolate mousse pie (or Vicki, if you’re reading this, the mousse that appears in champagne glasses on your table from time to time), tiramisu, nutella on crusty bread, a strange assortment of candies from my childhood and the occasional oddities like salt and vinegar chips and/or pickles. Notice a theme? I was talking with a friend of mine who is also expecting this past weekend, and she told me that she has nominal, if any interest in chocolate. What? Seeing all of the chocolate Easter bunnies around has me thinking that I might be giving birth to a chocolate child. Complete with a bowtie.

Other than that, we’ve been busy soaking up the warm days outside and staying dry on the rainy ones. Two weekends ago we rented cabins to celebrate our friend Leah’s birthday which was a ball. Drew sweet talked a newly open bar-b-que establishment into catering for us in exchange for some promotion on our part and we capped the night off with s’mores and a fire, and some pretty bad birthday singing. All in all, it was a success.

We are planning for our novelty garden again this year. Drew is digging another smaller bed just for the tomatoes, and we are trying to avoid temptation in our seed choices wherever possible to keep to the space that’s available. I am just delighted to see bulbs and volunteers returning, and very, very few things fill me with optimistic joy the way that tiny buds just beginning to burst open on trees and bushes do. On my drive every day I’m seeing more and more open up and come to life, and in turn I think I am opening up and coming to life right along with the greens, pinks, purples and yellows. I am so grateful to be experiencing the beginning of this pregnancy with Spring, because it seems that my whole world is blooming. Spring makes me wax…well, if not poetic, then certainly long winded, but that is what it’s for, right? A very happy Spring Monday to you!

Another Snow Day

We woke up to another mildly snowy morning after our big snow a couple of weeks ago.  It was a lovely snow, and hopefully this will be our last until some time next winter.  We got about six inches a couple of weeks ago, and I took some video which you can see below.  For those of you with a slower internet connection, you can hit the pause button and the video will continue to load and then you can watch it through without the choppy loading delays.  Also, a quick note to wish Mom another lovely year–it was her birthday yesterday, and we celebrated in style last night with our favorite local pizza and homemade cupcakes.  Sometimes you just have to mix it up.  Happy Birthday, happy snow day!

Me again…

picture-3

Morning! It’s been forever, so I’m taking a few minutes to catch up.  Almost every year I feel something bordering on dread when it comes to January and February.  Despite the later of these two being the shortest month of the year, time seems to move inexplicably slow during this dark spot in the rotation of the four seasons and inevitably I start to feel like March, let alone April will never come.  This year, however, I am sitting here wondering how we’re suddenly closing in on the middle of March when it was just January a week or so ago.  Where in the world has time gone?  I was out of town 3 of five weekends in January, and then we hopped on a plane for Fred’s wedding and some savored beach time in February, and then had friends visiting from Australia for the last two weeks of February, and now…well, now it’s March and we’re not doing much of anything.  Oh, and then there’s that business of the babe that’s growing away inside of me which has made time move both quickly and not so quickly.  I’m officially into my second trimester now, we head to the doctor again next week for this month’s check up and another listen to the heartbeat.  I feel almost guilty saying this, but apart from all of the travel madness, I had a really easy first trimester, no extreme sickness, and just a lot of tiredness that was easily cured with a few extra hours of sleep.  That, and the somewhat serious break up that I seem to have had with poultry and beef.  Either this baby is going to turn out to be a vegetarian, or I’m on my way, but even typing the word chicken right now makes me feel a little green in the gills, so I’m looking forward to having some of those strong food aversions melt away in the coming months.  I’m starting to show a little…at least I know it’s showing, to someone that doesn’t know what’s cooking in there, I kind of look like a snake after its snack.  Not a pretty image, but I can’t think of how else to say it, I’m just kind of baby bulging in the middle, which is pretty exciting!  The baby is swallowing, twitching and just generally spending our combined energy growing at a pretty alarming rate, all things that I have loved learning about!

So, that’s the update in brief.  Drew is completely off of orientation and still loving his job, Grace was thrilled with the recent snow fall, and Mable was equally thrilled with the few days of warm weather and porch sitting that came her way this past weekend.  A veritable windfall when your world mostly involves windows and furniture.  I hope that you’re doing well too, pictures and more internet love to come…
